Year 2 found out about the celebration of Diwali
Year 2 have been learning about Diwali, the Hindu ‘Festival of Lights’, where light defeating darkness and good triumphing over evil is remembered and celebrated. The children learnt about how people celebrate Diwali, for example: lighting candles, watching firework displays, meeting up with friends and family, dancing, having parties, exchanging gifts and visiting the temple to pray and give thanks.
The children thoroughly enjoyed reading the story of ‘Rama and Sita’, a story in which good triumphs over evil, and designing their own bright and colourful Rangoli patterns.
In their PE lesson, the children explored some ‘Bollywood’ style dance moves and learnt a short Diwali dance. Much fun was had by all!
The children were very interested in learning about another faith and how people celebrate. Well done Year 2!
