I became a Foundation Governor when my eldest daughter was in Year 1, (now in Year 10), and have been on the governing body ever since. My 4 children have all attended St Cuthbert’s, some starting in the old school. I became Chair of Governors when our previous chair, Mr Bill Laws, retired 3 years ago. As a Foundation Governor I am able to represent the parish family on the Governing Body. As a member of the Governing Body, my role is to support the head teacher and senior leadership team, to be a critical friend to them and hold the school to account to ensure that all our children are given every opportunity and encouragement to succeed, to feel happy and safe within our school family.

Term of office ends – Autumn Term, 2018

Dr Edward Chesters – Foundation Governor

Mr Neil Taylor - Foundation Governor

I have been a Foundation Governor for 6 years, a former pupil of the original St.Cuthberts I have two daughters who are also former pupils of the new school. I’m extremely proud of the school and pupils and often use the enthusiasm and attitude of the staff and pupils in my professional life.
With the current team of Staff, Pupils and Governors I’m looking forward to the next exciting challenge in the life of The School Family

She still works on a voluntary basis as a director of Real Care Ltd, Consett and as a trustee of Durham Amateur Rowing Club Education Centre.

Mrs S Stevens - Parent Governor

I took up the position of Parent Governor just over one year ago, so I am still learning a lot about the role.

I have three children (Yr 4 Yr 1 and one who is about to embark upon her St Cuthbert’s journey in Nursery), therefore I have a great personal interest in the future success of the school.

Being a Parent Governor gives me an insight into the running of the school and the decisions that are made which ultimately impact upon the education of all of our children. It is also about holding the school accountable where and when necessary and being able to put forward a parents point of view. We work collectively as a Governing Body for the benefit of the school and our children future.

My background is in law, but I had the rare opportunity to change career and this gave me the time and opportunity to become a Parent Governor.
